Why did the King of Bethlehem execute all 6 month or younger boys when Jesus was born?

This was written in the bible. Not exactly sure where but this appears to have been a prophecy predicted before Jesus was born and the King was scared after seeing the Star.

Why did the King of Bethlehem execute all 6 month or younger boys when Jesus was born?
Matthew chapter 2. Herod didn't want to be overthrown by the King of the Jews so he wanted the babies up to age two murdered. By this time Jesus was probably about two. Found an interesting site about this: http://www.bible.org/page.php?page_id=65... What the Jews missed (and often still do today) is that Jesus was born as their Savior, Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11).
Reply:The majority of them just couldn't see what was right in front of them. They had some of the Old Testament which is filled with prophecy about Jesus. Many Jews believe the disciples stole Jesus' body (Matthew 28:11-15). Report It

Reply:Jesus was a threat to him and he was scared. He though that since he did not know the exact whereabouts of Jesus that he would just take all children in that age bracket. This way he was sure to get the King. However, he failed... and i may be wrong but i think it was all boys under 2 years of age or something like that...
Reply:It was his way of trying to kill Jesus while still a child.
Reply:King Herod did because kings don't like rival kings. Three wise men told Herod that the King of the Jews was born and they were following His star - The Desire of the Ages.

Herod killed the innocents and Rachel mourned for her children in Israel.

An angel told Joseph in a dream to take Jesus and Mary and go into Egypt.
Reply:It was Herod, the King of Judea, and it was all baby boys under 2 years of age. He was just jealous of his own throne, and many kings killed people at the slightest hint that someone might be undermining them. He set the 2 years according tot he time that the wise men instructed him.
Reply:King Herod supposedly ordered the execution of all Jewish boys, 2 years or younger, b/c he heard the star was a sign of the next King of Bethlehem and he interpreted it as a threat. But, no historian writes of this.

Edit: No CONTEMPORARY (of JC) historian. Josephus Flavius was the closest to that time-He was a Jew, hated Herod, wrote all about the different horrible things he did but never said anything about this. The book of Matthew lists several events the other Gospels say nothing about.
Reply:King of Bethlehem? I think you are talking about the King of Galilee.
Reply:answer: He didn't. A massacre like that would have attracted the attention of the Romans. They frowned on things that could incite rebellion and no one mentioned it. Roman, Greek nor Jew.
Reply:You will find this in Matthew 2: verses 7 thru 16.

King Herod sent the wise men to Bethlehem

to search for the newborn Jesus. When the wise men found the baby Jesus, they were supposed to go back and tell king Herod where he was. King Herod told the wise men that he wanted to go and worship the baby Jesus. This was not true. He did not want to give up his throne. When the wise men followed the star and found the baby Jesus, they fell down and worshipped him. They were warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, instead they departed into their own country another way. When the wise men did not report back to king Herod, he knew he had been mocked by them and he was exceedingly wroth. Because of his wroth he ordered for all babies under the age of 2 to be killed thinking for sure that baby Jesus life would surely be taken.

I noticed that in your question, you said "6 month or younger." I am using the king James version, and my Bible says in Matthew 2:16 "from two years old and under....." This was a prophecy spoken by Jeremiah the prophet.
Reply:IF THE KING OF JERUSALEM KILLED ALL THE MALE CHILDREN FROM 6 MONTHS TO NEWBORNS THEN HE WAS SURE TO GET THE RIGHT ONE KILLED NAMELY JESUS, HOWEVER GOD KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING AND SENT AN ANGEL IN A DREAM TO JOSEPH AND TOLD HIM TO GET OUT OF BETHLEHEM AND GO TO EGYPT UNTIL IT WAS SAFE FOR THEM TO RETURN AND THEY DID AFTER HEROD DIED, BUT THEY LIVED IN NAZARETH.
Reply:yeah like harrod(the king guy) heard about a baby was going to be born and he would be like the king of the whole earth or something, so the king freaked out and had his guys kill all the boy babys
Reply:He feared that his throne would be in jeoperdy because of Jesus Christ, that's why he killed the babies.

I believe this was in Matthew 1 or between 1-3, when Joseph and Mary fled from King Herod (I think it's Herod, I'm pretty sure).
Reply:He didn't. Herod the Great was a particularly brutal ruler who was hated throughout the Jewish world. The historians of the day carefully recorded all of his atrocities, yet this single event, the most atrocious of all, is silently absent from the historical record.

Why? Because it never happened. The story (which is only found in a single Gospel) was invented by the author of Matthew to create parallels between Jesus and Moses.
Reply:Actually, it was when the wise men came claiming to have seen the star and shared the prophesy with the King. As many evil powerful people before him, Herod in protecting his power had all baby boys under two years old killed.
Reply:the king knew the prophecy that the king of kings was to come and when he heard that the messiah was born, he felt threatened by jesus and didnt want Him to be able to overthrow him. he ordered for all the little boys to be killed so that jesus would be killed and not have a chance of being king when He grew older.
Reply:King Herod, king of Judea. He knew the prophecy, and was not willing to give up his throne. And not knowing which one of them is the Messiah, he ordered for all the kids under the age of 2 to be killed.
Reply:The three wise men were astrologers who had seen a star pattern that meant that a divine ruler was born in Judea. When they went to King Herod to ask about it, he became frightened and ordered the baby boys of Bethlehem murdered. Joseph was warned in a dream and took his family to Egypt until Herod died. Herod knew the prophecies of the Messiah said that he would be born in Bethlehem.
Reply:It was 2 yrs and younger. Herod was appointed by the Roman Empire if you check history you will see this. He killed all of these children because he was attempting to slay Christ before he could take the throne. History will also reveal that he killed a lot of his own family because he thought they laid claim to the throne.
Reply:He did this in hopes to kill Jesus. He was aware of prophecies. They were waiting for The Messiah to be born during this time period.
Reply:He wanted to kill Jesus but didn't know where he was so he ordered all little boys to be killed. It probably would of worked, except an agel went to Joseph and told him to take Jesus out of Bethlehem and that's why this plot failed.
Reply:He thought JESUS would be a threat to his rule
Reply:He got hungry for little boys.
