What direction was Jesus' star traveling in when the wise men were following it?

The wise men traveled west to Jerusalem. Then, they went south to Bethlehem and at this point Jesus' star went before them. What direction was the star coming from when it went before them?

Matthew 2

"....there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,..."

"Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east,..."

"And he (Herod) sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child;..."

"...they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was."

What direction was Jesus' star traveling in when the wise men were following it?
It depends upon the time of night/day. As you know, the earth rotates and stars that, in the early evening, are found in the east will find themselves in the western sky towards morning.

That wise men stuff is all lies and fairy tales anyway and "stars" don't hover above slovenly barns or mangers.
Reply:it came from the east and went west?
Reply:up and slightly to the left of over that way.
Reply:It may have been so bright, that the wise men, couldn't miss it.
