Why did the wise men of the east, after seeing the star in the east. end up west, in Bethlehem?

They were not "wise men" they were astrologers.

They were led by the 'star' directly to Herod, and THEN to Jesus.

Many people now see that this was not a plan from God, but rather it was an attempt by Satan to have Jesus killed before he could grow up, learn obedience, teach people the truth, and then offer up his sinless life as the propitiatory sacrifice to pay the debt that we inherited from our forefather Adam.

Astrology (looking for signs and omens from the heavenly bodies) is something that was condemned by God thousands of years ago. So, there is no way that God would have led people who practiced something he condemned to 'pay homage to his son'.

From the Reasoning Book;

Jesus and the Astrologers

A NUMBER of men come from the East. They are astrologers—people who claim to interpret the position of stars. While they were at home in the East, they saw a new star, and they have followed it hundreds of miles to Jerusalem.

When the astrologers get to Jerusalem, they ask: “Where is the one born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when we were in the east, and we have come to do him obeisance.”

When King Herod at Jerusalem hears about this, he is very upset. So he calls the chief priests and asks where the Christ is to be born. Basing their reply on the Scriptures, they answer: “In Bethlehem.” At that, Herod has the astrologers brought to him and tells them: “Go make a careful search for the young child, and when you have found it report back to me, that I too may go and do it obeisance.” But, actually, Herod wants to find the child to kill him!

After they leave, an amazing thing happens. The star they had seen when they were in the East travels ahead of them. Clearly, this is no ordinary star, but it has been specially provided to direct them. The astrologers keep following it until it stops right above the house where Joseph and Mary are staying.

When the astrologers enter the house, they find Mary with her young child, Jesus. At that they all bow down to him. And they take out of their bags gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Afterward, when they are about to return and tell Herod where the child is, they are warned by God in a dream not to do that. So they leave for their own country by another way.

Who do you think provided the star that moved in the sky to guide the astrologers? Remember, the star did not guide them directly to Jesus in Bethlehem. Rather, they were led to Jerusalem where they came in touch with King Herod, who wanted to kill Jesus. And he would have done so if God had not stepped in and warned the astrologers not to tell Herod where Jesus was. It was God’s enemy, Satan the Devil, who wanted Jesus killed, and he used that star to try to accomplish his purpose. Matthew 2:1-12; Micah 5:2.

Why did the wise men of the east, after seeing the star in the east. end up west, in Bethlehem?
The King, Herod, had heard that there was a child born who would be King of the Jews.

Looking to secure his ruler ship and that of his descendants he was looking for ways to kill Jesus as a child.

The star that told these non Jews where Jesus was, was no other than Satan the Devil himself seeking to destroy the son of God as a child. Books of Genesis and Revelation.

The wise men went to Herod's palace hoping he would know where to find the child.

When Jehovah angel told the wise men not to return, Herod grew hot with anger and ordered the destruction of all boys 2 years of age and younger.

Not knowing how old the Christ child was, he took to killing just those of 2 years of age because it would have taken time for them to find the child and to return, estimating that Jesus would be a little younger than 2, but Herod didn't want to take the chance that he would live.

Jehovah protected Jesus by giving Joseph instructions to flee for Egypt until Herod died, thus his quick action spared Jesus life.
Reply:dead reckoning by the stars I assume.
Reply:The story has been amplified into the three seeing the star/comet in Iran and traveling west to Bethlehem. At that time Iran was still considered the most advanced kingdom in that part of the world full of wise men.

Metaphorically, the three wisemen represent the same unity state as the trinity, with the additional meaning - what is required in this reality as far as validation of one's gifts - in order to stabilize the child's authentic Self, protecting it from succumbing to the learned ego's thoughts, feelings, and identity.
Reply:All stars move across the sky. Does that mean at sunset they traveled east until the star passed over and then the followed it to the west, night after night after night? That means they basically walked back and forth.
Reply:This story is a myth. It did not happen.
Reply:Have you ever stayed up all night on a full moon? If you have, did the moon stay in the same place all night long?? Same thing applies here...

Peace be with you.
Reply:They saw the star rising from the east and the star then moves across the sky westward!!!
Reply:Good question, never really thought about it. Hmmm
Reply:because of location transference?
Reply:derrrrrrrr!
Reply:Wise men still seek Jesus.
Reply:Because the star was really a UFO built by who ever God is.
Reply:The kept going east until they circumnavigated the globe.
