Could there be some legitimacy to astrology?

I'm a Christian, taught not to believe in this "pseudo-science", but I find it interesting nonetheless and believe there could be some legitimacy to it. In addition to the accuracy of my Zodiac symbol to my personality, when studying Nostradamus I found that he used astrology in predicting the future. He was a descendant from the ancient Hebrew tribe of Issachar, which practiced astrology. A recent article I read

( http://www.wsbt.com/news/local/12804447.... ) also said that an explanation for the star of Bethlehem was an aligning of all known planets at the time.

What's your opinion and what are your reasons for it?

If you can, mention a "coincidence" that could give some legitimacy to astrology (preferably a historical one, but personal ones are okay too), since I'm sure I didn't mention them all.

Could there be some legitimacy to astrology?
Astrology is a pagan religious practice that is absolutely not acceptable if we wish to serve the true God , - Jehovah.

This is what The Bible says about these sort of magic practices., and those that practice them.

Deuteronomy 18:10-13 ". . .There should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, anyone who employs divination, a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead. For everybody doing these things is something detestable to Jehovah, and on account of these detestable things Jehovah your God is driving them away from before you. You should prove yourself faultless with Jehovah your God."

...its as simple as that.

Reply:Astrology is absolutely as legitimate as Christianity.

They both are founded on the same faith that something else is controlling your life.
Reply:Ehh, there is no empirical legitimacy.
Reply:All astrology is bunk, especially that in newspapers... except that it might just possibly have been founded on a grain of truth, in the sense that the time of year people are born may have a slight influence on their subsequent development, especially in societies which are more at the mercy of the natural world. If your mother was pregnant in the winter and suffered hunger and cold, you may tend to have slightly different temperament to someone whose mother was pregnant from (say) spring to autumn when food was plentiful and the weather was warm. So, it's not inconceivable that people in the distant past noticed subtle differences between people born at different times of the year (different 'signs') and codified them in astrology.

If there is any legitimacy at all to astrology, it's of this nature, not something supernatural like predicting the future.
Reply:If it were true then it would look the same from any other planet, no? Do you really think the zodiac signs would look the same if you were on a planet on the other side of the milky way, or another galaxy farther than the light from which the zodiac stars eminate?
Reply:Honestly I think its all crap.

The only thing astrology was ever good for was predicting the seasons, little did they know they where stepping into astronomy.

Generally all the horoscopes etc. are generic comments that would apply to anyone 99 out of 100 days of the year.
Reply:The short answer is: no.

It's all selective memory and coincidence.

Go look at all the other zodiac signs -- they're vague enough that you'll find a little bit of yourself in EACH of the descriptions.
Reply:There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that astrology is anything other than total bunkum.
Reply:besides making money.....there is a connection with the universe ...but man predicting the future?????
Reply:all religions come from Early astrology.
Reply:People might possibly find correlations between events here on earth and astronomical events, but that does not mean there is a causal link --- and if you haven't got a causal link, you've got nothing worth talking about.
Reply:It is just as "legitimate" as Christianity.
Reply:Of course there is legitimacy to astrology. That is why it is probably the oldest practice on earth. Long before the birth of Jesus Christ, the ancients used this in their every day life. If there was no legitimacy to it, it wouldn't continue to be practiced today.
Reply:ya.....
