Do you think the Bethlehem star is too marvelous? Do you think it was a reality or just made up by the Church?
2000 years ago only a hand full of individuals knew anything about the Universe. They were Greeks who taught the Persians, none of them were Hebrew.
Folks that made up stories could call up a star with no effort. All it took is to wait until dark, find a bright shinny object (it was probably a planet) and pronounce it to be a "King Star".
It was popular in Mesopotamian folklore to issue in a King with a Star.
Why would the Hebrew story be any different.
